White House Developing Plan to Establish First Federal Building Performance Standards

The White House Council on Environmental Quality, the General Services Administration, the Department of Energy, and the Environmental Protection Agency are working out the details of the first-ever federal building performance standards establishing metrics, targets, and tracking methods to reach federal carbon emissions goals. The effort is intended to push building efficiency in state government and the private sector.  It is also intended to compliment recent congressional support for building efficiency in the Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill in the form of $225 million in grants for upgrading building energy codes and a $40 million in grants to train energy auditors of commercial and residential buildings.
