SWACCA Urges Congress to Support COBRA Coverage in Next COVID-19 Bill

Throughout the past year, SWACCA has advocated for COBRA continuation coverage subsidies to ensure workers who lost their eligibility for health insurance could continue to afford coverage. While our efforts to include this in the package that passed at the end of last year fell short, we have continued to press Congress to include this COBRA support in the COVID-19 package that is currently working its way through Congress as part of the Budget Reconciliation process. Today, the Signatory Wall and Ceiling Contractors Alliance (SWACCA) is pleased to be a part of a coalition of nearly 90 companies and organizations signing a letter to congressional leaders urging the inclusion of COBRA funding in the COVID-19 relief package being debated in Congress. The letter notes that “by supporting robust COBRA continuation coverage… we can help families keep their current doctors, treatment plans and health coverage during this crisis.”

We were pleased to see that the House Education and Labor Committee reconciliation bill that was advanced early this morning included substantial COBRA subsidies along the lines SWACCA has been advocating. We look forward to working with Congress to see this provision enacted into law and will continue fighting to make it happen.
