SWACCA and AWCI Submit Joint Comments on OSHA Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Settings ANPRM

Last night, SWACCA joined the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry (AWCI) in filing comments on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Regarding Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings.

In the comments, SWACCA and AWCI explain that many, if not most of our member contractors have adopted heat injury and illness prevention programs and have years of experience successfully managing them. To that end, SWACCA and AWCI explain that if OSHA deems it necessary to pursue a heat injury and illness prevention standard, the agency should look to establish a distinct standard for the construction industry through a negotiated rulemaking process. If DOL is unable to pursue a distinct construction standard, SWACCA and AWCI explain that only a very general standard could be successfully applied across industries. The letter further argues that any standard should also focus on employee training and awareness.

The comments are available in their entirety here.
