Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats Unveil $760 Billion Infrastructure Proposal, Includes $30 Billion Investment in Airport Infrastructure
Today, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats released the contours of a $760 billion proposal to fund federal infrastructure investments over a five year period. The proposal—entitled the Moving Forward Framework—is intended to be an initial outline of Democrat priorities that will eventually be introduced as a formal bill. Of particular interest, the framework calls for $30 billion in increased airport infrastructure investments. According to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the proposal would increase the passenger facility charge (PFC) cap to allow for increased investment to expand airports that are at or over capacity with travelers and increasingly congested runways. Additionally, the framework proposes to create a new Airport and Airway Investment Program that would focus on investing in airport modernization projects that enhance airport capacity.
The proposal itself is the work of Democrats on the House Transportation and Infrastructure, Ways and Means, and Energy and Commerce Committees. Those Committees will be responsible for drafting legislation related to the framework and plan to work together to identify ways to pay for the $760 billion package.
