House Ed & Labor Committee Democrats Send Letter to Scalia Requesting Extension of Comment Deadline for DOL’s Independent Contractor Proposed Rule
House Education and Labor Committee Chair Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Workforce Protections Subcommittee Chair Alma Adams (D-NC) sent a letter to Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia urging the Department to extend the deadline for the public to submit comments on the Department of Labor’s proposed rule regarding independent contractor status under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
In the letter, Scott and Adams asked Scalia to provide at least 30 additional days for the public to weigh in. The Members said that the current 30-day comment window—which is set to end on October 26—presents a challenge for the public to weigh in on the 159-page proposal and highlighted the “far-reaching impact” the rule would have on the U.S. economy.
