House Majority Leader Scalise Says House to Pass All 12 Appropriations Bills Before August Recess
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told his conference that the House will begin moving appropriations bills to the House floor the first week of June and plan to pass all 12 appropriations bills before the beginning of the August recess. Of particular relevance to SWACCA, Scalise said the Labor Department-Health and Human Services funding bill, the Energy-Water funding bill, and the Transportation-Housing and Urban Development funding bill will come to the floor during the final week of July. Scalise’s timeline is an ambitious one given the slim House Republican majority, which allows only a handful of members to tank any bill on the floor. Lawmakers will either need to enact all 12 appropriations bills or pass a continuing resolution to prevent a government shutdown when the current fiscal year ends on September 30, 2024
