Dozens of Progressive Organizations Announce Their Support for Julie Su's Nomination to Lead DOL

Over the weekend, the Coalition for Inclusive Economic Growth (Coalition), a group of more than 60 progressive organizations, sent a letter to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee highlighting its support for Julie Su’s nomination to lead the Department of Labor (DOL).

In the letter to Senate HELP, the Coalition highlighted its support for Su’s work as Deputy Labor Secretary on DOL’s “Good Jobs Initiative,” which is intended to ensure that the funding from the recently enacted Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and the CHIPS and Science Act generates good paying jobs and advances equity. The Coalition also notes that Su helped to oversee DOL’s Prudence and Loyalty in Selecting Plan Investments and Exercising Shareholder Rights. This is a rulemaking SWACCA supported because it rescinded the previous Administration’s Financial Factors rule and adopted our position that trustees evaluating economically equivalent investments for a fund should be allowed to consider the extent to which an investment creates union jobs that generate contributions to the plan.
