More than 400 Businesses and Organizations Call on Congress to Avoid a Comprehensive Immigration Bill and Focus on Smaller, Bipartisan Priorities

The Associated General Contractors of America, the Associated Builders and Contractors, the National Association of Homebuilders and more than 400 other businesses and organizations, collectively called the “Legal Immigration and Border Enforcement Reform This Year (LIBERTY) Campaign,” sent a letter to Congressional lawmakers telling them that they should avoid comprehensive immigration reform legislation and instead focus on a smaller subset of measures that could receive bipartisan support.

In particular, the groups called on Congress to: (1) increase the annual quotas for employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant visas; (2) institute modern, effective, and efficient employment verification reforms; (3) expand the scope of essential worker programs, specifically allowing employers to meet temporary labor needs in non-seasonal jobs; (4) increase resources at the southern U.S. border; and (5) reform U.S. asylum laws.
