House Republican Lawmakers Introduce Broad Immigration Reform Proposal
Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) unveiled broad immigration legislation entitled the Dignity Act in a preview of the Republican approach to immigration if the party takes control of the House in November’s midterm election.
Rep. Salazar’s bill would boost resources for border security, create immediate legal status for Dreamers, create a program to provide legal status and work authorizations to undocumented immigrants, and funnel money paid in restitution by undocumented immigrants into the “American Worker Fund” created to provide grants to American citizens for workforce education initiatives, apprenticeship programs, and Career and Technical Education to give opportunities for Americans to enter new careers.
