EBSA to Hold Webinar on September 7 on Proposed Rule for Health Plans to Meet Mental Health and Substance Abuse Benefit Parity Standards
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) announced a virtual webinar on September 7, 2023 from 2pm to 3:15pm to discuss its recently issued proposed rule seeking stronger compliance with the requirements of the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA). As we detailed when this proposed rule published on July 28, 2023, the MHPAEA aims to ensure that access to mental health and substance use disorder benefits through health plans—include jointly-trusteed labor-management health plans—is not more restrictive than access to medical and surgical benefits.
During the September 7th webinar, the EBSA will explain the key features of the proposed rule and how to submit comments on it. While there is no stated deadline, registration is required to participate in the webinar and can be completed through WebEx here.
