D.C. AG Announces Drywall Contractor Must Pay Over $1 Million to Resolve Employee Misclassification Allegations

Washington D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine announced that Dynamic Contracting, Inc., a drywall contractor, will pay $1,075,070 to workers and the city of D.C. to resolve allegations that it engaged in a scheme that enabled the company to avoid paying workers their full wages by misclassifying them on construction projects throughout D.C. As you may recall, Attorney General Racine was on the same panel of witnesses as former SWACCA President Matt Townsend in September 2019 when he testified before the House Education and Labor Committee about misclassification of workers as independent contractors.

According to a release from Racine’s office, Dynamic Contracting engaged in a scheme that “deprived workers of overtime pay and paid sick leave, resulting in unlawfully suppressed labor costs that benefited Dynamic and its general contractors.”
