OSHA to Hold Listening Session on June 14 for Employers and Workers to Share Best Workplace Safety and Health Practices

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced a listening session entitled, “Safety as a Core Workplace Value” on June 14, 2023 from 8:30am to 12pm and from 1pm to 4pm ET. The listening session seeks public input to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities by increasing worker participation in safety and health programs. In particular, OSHA representatives are interested in the following topics: (1) connecting safety and health programs with a positive workplace safety culture; (2) understanding how employers include safety in a strong organizational culture; (3) identifying barriers and challenges to improving safety and health in the workplace; (4) reducing injuries, illnesses, and fatalities; and (5) learning how organizations succeed in promoting a culture of workplace safety. Those interested in participating in the listening session must register here by June 7, 2023.

In advance of the listening session, OSHA is asking participants to consider the following topics: (1) how individual organizations communicate safety and health in their values; (2) examples of how your organization demonstrates that safety and health are an important value at work; (3) how your organization promotes health and safety in the workplace; and (4) suggested methods for communicating important information to colleagues. Comments responsive to these topics can be offered during the listening session or can be submitted here by November 30, 2023 using Docket No. OSHA-2023-0011.
