SWACCA Sends Letters to House and Senate Lawmakers Opposing the “Save Local Business Act”

The Signatory Wall and Ceiling Contractors Alliance (SWACCA) sent letters to the top lawmakers on the House Education and Labor Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee renewing opposition to the “Save Local Business Act” (H.R. 3185/S. 1636) that SWACCA helped to defeat under the last Administration.

In the letters, SWACCA explains that the bill’s narrow definition of joint employment under both the NLRA and FLSA would provide “complete safety for business models built upon the misclassification of construction workers as independent contractors.” In addition, SWACCA notes that the bill represents an effort “to advantage one business model over another and an endorsement of a model promoting profits over the interests of America’s workers, taxpayers, and those companies working hard to create middle class jobs.”
