Laphonza Butler Sworn in as California's Senator
Newly sworn in Senator Butler of California is known as the head of EMILY’s list and as a former California labor leader with SEIU, but SWACCA is focused on work she did after leaving the labor movement to support companies that rely on an independent contractor business model, including a stint as Airbnb’s director of public policy and campaigns and her time at SCRB Strategies working on behalf of Uber. SWACCA will be watching to see if she will support efforts to crackdown on the misclassification of workers as independent contractors, or if she will support a model essential to her former employer and client.
