House GOP’s American Security Task Force Releases Blueprint on Immigration

Lawmakers serving on House Republicans’ American Security Task Force released a blueprint of policies Republicans will pursue if they take control of the House in the November midterm elections. The American Security Task Force is one of seven task forces established by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) that were designed to identify and develop policy solutions for an incoming House Republican majority. The American Security Task Force was established to focus on solutions to address immigration and border security, among others.

In the blueprint released today by the Task Force, House Republicans have outlined plans to, should they attain a House majority: (1) require the federal government to continue construction of border wall project on the U.S.-Mexico border started under the Trump Administration; (2) increase funding and staffing for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP); (3) enhance CBP’s technology capabilities at the border; and (4) expand existing authorities like the Title 42 public health order that provides for the expedited deportation of migrants who have crossed into the U.S.
