Biden Announces FAR Council Proposed Rule to Prohibit Federal Contractors from Using Job Applicant's Compensation History to Set Starting Pay

In honor of the 15th anniversary of the Lily Ledbetter Act, President Biden announced that the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council is issuing a proposed rule that will prohibit federal contractors from using a job applicant’s compensation history to set their starting pay. The rule will be subject to a 60-day comment period. In addition, the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs is issuing guidance to advise federal contractors on how to avoid pay discrimination. The White House also issued a fact sheet discussing the equal pay initiative for federal contractors and the federal workforce.
