Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Announces New Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2022-2026

Today, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) announced a newly-approved strategic plan for FY 2022-2026 that will direct the Commission’s work and lay the foundation for more detailed annual plans, budgets, and related program performance information in the future. The new Strategic Plan emphasizes an “increased focus on systemic discrimination,” which the EEOC conceives of in four categories: 1) Systemic discrimination through hiring, promotion, assignment, and referral processes (including the use of AI and big-data to sort job applicants); 2) Systemic discrimination through workplace policies and practices; 3) Systemic discrimination in layoff, reduction-in-force, and discharge policies; and 4) Systemic discrimination through violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008. The strategic plan also focuses on enhanced monitoring of EEOC conciliation agreements and expanded efforts to protected underserved communities, including immigrants regardless of their status. The entire strategic plan can be reviewed here.
