Congressional Lawmaker Holds Vigil and "Thirst Strike" at U.S. Capitol to Call on OSHA to Fast-Track Its Heat Injury and Illness Rulemaking

Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX), alongside civil rights leader Delores Huerta and other activists, is set to begin a vigil and thirst strike on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to call for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to fast-track its heat injury and illness rulemaking that SWACCA submitted comments on in January 2022. Casar and other lawmakers expressed concern about the duration of the normal OSHA rulemaking process for addressing heat given the record heatwave currently impacting the nation. This follows his release yesterday of a letter to the Department of Labor signed by 100 of his congressional colleagues pressing this same point.
