Biden Administration Releases New Plans to Reduce Drug Prices
The Biden Administration released a new framework to reduce drug prices that opens the door to the Administration seizing the patents of certain costly medications from drugmakers in a new push to slash high drug prices and promote more pharmaceutical competition. The framework includes investigating “corporate greed” in healthcare through a joint Department of Justice-Federal Trade Commission-Department of Health and Human Services Request for Information “to seek input about how private equity and other corporations’ increasing power and control of our health care is affecting Americans,” and identifying anticompetitive “roll ups” that currently evade antitrust review.
