Biden Signals He May Issue Executive Order to Restrict Asylum and Limit the Number of Immigrants Crossing the Southern U.S. Border
In an interview with Univision on Tuesday evening, President Joe Biden signaled that his administration is having renewed discussions about issued an Executive Order that would use authorities under the Immigration and Nationality Act to restrict the ability of immigrants to claim asylum and to dramatically limit the number of immigrants who can cross the southern U.S. border.
During the interview, Biden said the administration is “examining whether or not I have that power.” Biden also acknowledged that such a move would likely face court challenges, but said “if I get shutdown by the court, I get shut down by the court.”
