Biden Sends Domestic Spending Supplemental to Congress Requesting Billions in Funding for Disaster Relief and Opioid Treatment Services

The Biden Administration unveiled a second supplemental funding request to Congress that seeks more than $50 billion in new domestic spending. Specifically, the request seeks, among other funding: (1) $23.5 billion for disaster response, including $2.8 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development to address infrastructure and housing needs caused by major disasters; (2) $1.55 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services to provide opioid treatment, harm reduction, and recovery support services; (3) $1.6 billion for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to help low-income Americans cover home heating costs; and (4) $16 billion for an additional year of child care stabilization funding to keep child care providers afloat.
