DOL Releases Final Rule Implementing the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act
The Department of Labor (DOL) posted the pre-publication version and an associated fact sheet for its final rule entitled, “Requirements Related to the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA).” The final rule is intended to ensure that people seeking coverage for mental health and substance use disorder (MH/SUD) care can access treatment as easily as people seeking coverage for other medical treatments.
DOL plans to host a virtual webinar on the final rule through WebEx on September 19, 2024 from 2pm – 3:15pm ET, with registration available by clicking “Register Here.” In addition, DOL also released: (1) a frequently asked questions document for beneficiaries and participants; (2) a frequently asked questions document for providers; (3) a frequently asked questions document for health plans and issuers; (4) a White House fact sheet; and (5) a news release from DOL. In response to the release of the rule, House Education and the Workforce Chair Foxx (R-NC) said the “rules do nothing to improve mental health care access and instead put paperwork over patients” adding that “reporting regulations cannot be more important than workers’ mental health.”
