Lawmakers on House Education and the Workforce Committee Reintroduce Bipartisan National Apprenticeship Act of 2023

House Education and the Workforce Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) announced the introduction of the National Apprenticeship Act of 2023. This legislation would: (1) provide more than $3.85 billion over five years to increase access to registered apprenticeships; (2) codify and streamline standards for registered youth apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeship programs; (3) codify the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship; and (4) codify the National Advisory Committee on Apprenticeships.

SWACCA has been working for several Congresses to reauthorize the National Apprenticeship Act, most recently sending letters of support for the bill when it was considered in the House Education and Labor Committee last Congress in January 2021 and again when the bill passed the House and was sent to the Senate in February 2021. SWACCA’s Washington team is analyzing the bill text before taking a position on it to ensure no changes have been made to the legislation.

A fact sheet and a section-by-section on the bill are available here and here, respectively.
