FAA Announces $566 Million in Airport Improvement Grant Funding SWACCA Helped to Secure in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the award of $566.4 million in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program for 296 grants in 47 states to modernize airport infrastructure. The AIG funds can be used for airport planning, development, sustainability, terminal expansions, baggage system upgrades, runway safety enhancements, and noise compatibility projects at eligible airports. SWACCA successfully lobbied to include $15 billion in funding for airport improvements in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which was signed into law by President Biden in 2021.
The awards in this round of funding include: (1) $45.4 million to Seattle-Tacoma International in Washington State to fund structural, seismic, and building system upgrades to Concourse S to meet design standards; (2) $34.6 million to Louisville Muhammad Ali International in Kentucky to expand the existing terminal by 31,049 square feet to include a TSA checkpoint, solar microgrid, and emergency generator; and (3) $8.2 million to Moline Quad Cities International in Rock Island County, Illinois to expand the existing terminal by 14,116 square feet to facilitate the movement of passengers and baggage to bring the airport into conformity with current standards.
